ABOUT EOCS

The Egyptian Olympiad in Computational Science (EOCS) bridges Egypt's rich scientific heritage with cutting-edge computational innovation. We challenge students to solve complex scientific problems using modern computational methods.

PHYSICS COMPUTATION

Modeling Celestial Systems, Ising Model, Molecule Diffusion, and Particle Physics

CHEMICAL COMPUTATION

Modeling Molecular Geometry, Reaction Kinetics, and Drug Design

BIOLOGICAL COMPUTATION

COMPETITION STRUCTURE

Four stages from online qualifications to an onsite finals hackathon — designed to grow your computational science skills step by step.

ROUND 1: QUALIFICATIONSOnline · Individual

  • Format: Multiple-choice, short-answer theoretical questions, and basic coding exercises.
  • Focus: Fundamental concepts in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and programming.
  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Advancement: Top 10–30% qualify for Round 2 and gain access to optional training sessions.

TRAINING PERIODOptional · Team-Based

  • Format: Daily sessions covering all five competition fields.
  • Duration: 10 days, 1 session per day.
  • Focus: Hands-on training in computational thinking, scientific modeling, and programming.
  • Structure: Each field has two sessions for comprehensive coverage.
  • Purpose: Prepare teams for advanced rounds with key computational techniques.

ROUND 2: NATIONALOnline · Team-Based

  • Format: Advanced problem-solving with written solutions, coding, and numerical simulations.
  • Focus: Computational science applications using numerical methods, simulations, and data analysis.
  • Duration: 2.5–3 hours
  • Scoring: Professor grading on correctness, efficiency, and scientific accuracy.
  • Advancement: Top 8–16 teams qualify for the Finals.

ROUND 3: FINALSOnsite · Hackathon · Team-Based

  • Format: Teams tackle open-ended computational challenges over 5–6 hours.
  • Focus: Programming, simulations, and data science for scientific problems.
  • Judging criteria:
