ABOUT EOCS

The Egyptian Olympiad in Computational Science (EOCS) bridges Egypt's rich scientific heritage with cutting-edge computational innovation. We challenge students to solve complex scientific problems using modern computational methods.

PHYSICS COMPUTATION

Modeling Celestial Systems, Ising Model, Molecule Diffusion, and Particle Physics

CHEMICAL COMPUTATION

Modeling Molecular Geometry, Reaction Kinetics, and Drug Design

BIOLOGICAL COMPUTATION

DNA Analysis, Machine Learning in Biology, Genomic and Evolutionary Analysis, and Molecular Docking

Mathematical COMPUTATION

Computing Systems of Linear Equations, Numerical Caclulus, and Graph-Based genomics

COMPETITION STRUCTURE

ROUND 1: QUALIFICATIONS (Online, Individual)

  • Format: Multiple-choice, short-answer theoretical questions, and basic coding exercises.
  • Focus: Fundamental concepts in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and programming.
  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Advancement: Top 10% to 30% participants qualify for Round 2 and gain access to optional training sessions.

TRAINING PERIOD (Optional, Team-Based)

  • Format: Daily sessions, covering all five competition fields.
  • Duration: 10 days, 1 session per day.
  • Focus: Hands-on training in computational thinking, scientific modeling, and programming.
  • Structure:Each competition field (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and programming) will have two sessions, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
  • Purpose: Helps teams prepare for advanced rounds by introducing key computational techniques.

ROUND 2: NATIONAL (Online, Team-Based)

  • Format: Advanced problem-solving with written solutions, coding implementations, and numerical simulations.
  • Focus:Computational science applications—solving scientific problems using numerical methods, simulations, data analysis, and algorithmic approaches.
  • Duration: 2.5–3 hours
  • Scoring: Professors' grading based on correctness, efficiency, and scientific accuracy.
  • Advancement: Top 8 to 16 teams qualify for the Finals.

ROUND 3: Finals (Onsite, Hackathon-Style, Team-Based)

  • Format: Teams tackle one or more open-ended computational challenges over 5-6 hours.
  • Focus: Programming, simulations, and data science techniques to solve scientific problems.
  • Judging Criteria:
    • Innovation (25%)
    • Scientific Accuracy (25%)
    • Algorithm Efficiency (25%)
    • Presentation (25%)

ELIGIBILITY & RULES

All Students Enrolled Must Be:

  • Egyptian or enrolled in an Egyptian School
  • Between Grade 9 and 12
  • Between 13-19 years

Students Must follow this rules to be qualified:

  • Do not use AI tools
  • Do not switch tabs during the exam
  • Take the exam in a quite room alone
  • Remove any electronic devices nearby but your laptop/mobile
